Call / Bando

The Science Dissemination Unit (SDU) of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy has established on August 12, 2014 a Scientific FabLab infrastructure devoted to creativity and research with special focus on possible applications of benefit for the society. Free membership for the use of this SciFabLab is subject to acceptance of a “Guest Project” and stands for the period of the project itself.

Call for Guest Projects / Bando per Progetti Ospiti

The ICTP SDU is therefore opening an ongoing call for Guest Projects. This call aims at original projects involving the use of the flexible computer-controlled rapid-prototyping and fabrication tools available in the ICTP SciFabLab structure. ICTP scientists, visitors, students and other individuals living in the region (including the neighbouring areas of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia) are encouraged to submit projects to be fabricated in the SciFabLab. Priority will be given to projects in the fields of science, education and sustainable development. A few examples are: thesis projects; robotics, electronics, micro-controllers and computer –based science projects; 3D printing for education; “green” technologies and alternative energies; “Smart Village” and “Internet of Things” applications.

Starting from March 2015, following a cooperation agreement with the Municipality of Trieste, Guest Projects “related to the territory of Trieste and aimed to touristic, cultural, linguistic or social empowerment of the Trieste municipality” will be also accepted.

Accepted projects should agree to follow these rules:

  • to share their expertise with other members of the SciFabLab;
    condividere le loro competenze con gli altri membri dello SciFabLab;
  • to publish openly their results and methods in the literature, on-line or exhibit in Maker events. The authors of any prototype, model and code developed within the ICTP Scientific FabLab will retain their full ownership and rights, however it is highly recommended to release the projects with open source / open hardware licenses.
